Abstract

Disclosed is a convention which identifies a method of using BookMaster* tags and symbols to enable cross book linking within documents developed in different locations. Details will also be provided on exploiting serialization (selecting different versions of documents for referencing). This convention is important for softcopy (online) information; particularly the BookManager* product.

Cross Site Document Linking

      Disclosed is a convention which identifies a method of using
BookMaster* tags and symbols to enable cross book linking within
documents developed in different locations.  Details will also be
provided on exploiting serialization (selecting different versions of
documents for referencing).  This convention is important for
softcopy (online) information; particularly the BookManager* product.

      Each library that wants to participate in the cross book
linking must supply a definition file containing the following
information for each book:

1.  For each short title, a .NAMEIT defined symbol (variable) in the
    form .nameit symbol=pppbbsst where:

    - ppp is the 3 character library identifier.  - bb is the 2
    character book identifier.  - ss is the 2 character document
    index (initially 00).  - 't' signifies that the symbol is for the
    book title.

    text = 'Short title text'.

2.  For each book number, a .NAMEIT defined symbol (variable) in the
    form .nameit symbol=pppbbssn where:

    - pppbbss is the same as for the short title symbol above.  - 'n'
    signifies that the symbol is for the book number.

    text = 'Document number'.

3.  For each long title, a .NAMEIT defined symbol (variable) in the
    form .nameit symbol=pppbbssl where:

    - pppbbss is the same as for the short title symbol above.  - 'l'
    signifies that the .NAMEIT is for the long title.

    text = 'long title text'.

4.  For each document, a  tag must include the following parameters:

    - id = pppbbss where: pppbbss is the same as for the short title
    symbol above.  - num = the symbol defined in the .NAMEIT for the
    book number.  - title = the symbol defined in the .NAMEIT for the
    book title.  - level = current dash level of the b...
