Passive Distribution List Builder

In typical electronic office environments, users build and
maintain static groups of mail addressees (distribution lists).  The
problem is that these must be created and maintained manually and do
not reflect the volatile nature of workgroup dynamics.

Provided is a software process which analyzes patterns in a
user's electronic mail activity over time and constructs candidate
groups for constructing distribution lists.  It is an enhancement to
existing office electronic mail and directory functions, implemented
as a background process (perhaps a Terminate-and-Stay-Resident - TSR

- program) which analyses a user's recent outbound mailing history to
provide to the user candidate groupings for potential distribution
lists.

The process maintains a listing (either in memory or on
non-volatile storage) of a user's recent mailings and the recipient
groups of those mailings.  After the passage of a specified period of
time or meeting of certain thresholds, the process presents candidate
groupings.  The user is then allowed to select any of these
groupings.  Upon selection, the process automatically builds
distribution lists in a form appropriate to the specific office
environment.  Later, as the lists are utilized and combined with new
userids or as updates occur to userids in current lists, the user can
be presented with the opportunity to update, change or create a new
list based on the monitored usage.
