Abstract

Often within an electronic calendaring system, users who were scheduled o attend (attendees) a particular event must cancel their appointment. Typically, these users send electronic mail messages to notify the requester of the meeting that they will not be attending the event. These peripheral type notifications often require the originator to access peripheral applications, such as electronic mail to notify users of cancelling attendees. Prior methods allow second parties to have affinity relationships, typically secretaries, but these affinity powers are generally granted by special administration facilities.

Methodology for Forwarding Affinity Authority for Calendar Attendees

Often within an electronic calendaring system, users who were
scheduled o attend (attendees) a particular event must cancel their
appointment.  Typically, these users send electronic mail messages to
notify the requester of the meeting that they will not be attending
the event.  These peripheral type notifications often require the
originator to access peripheral applications, such as electronic mail
to notify users of cancelling attendees.  Prior methods allow second
parties to have affinity relationships, typically secretaries, but
these affinity powers are generally granted by special administration
facilities.

It is desirable to provide a method by which the requestor of a
meeting can specify that attendees have special affinity authority.
It is desirable to allow attendees to post notifications of arrival
or cancellation directly on to the requester's calendar.  It is
advantageous to allow the requester to view calendars to determine
the current list of attendees scheduled.  Moreover, many times
attendees only wish to attend a meeting if another particular
attendee will be present at the event.  Prior art only allows the
requester to be notified that a particular attendee has cancelled.
In order to inform all parties, prior art would require the
cancelling attendee to send a message to all attendees of the event.
It is desirable to a have a central point for which modifications can
be made and for which all attendees can view the modifications.

This article describes a methodology for which a requester of a
calendar event can subjugate particular authorities to attendees of
the calendar event.  A service is provided which allows for the
requester to classify designated attendees as Affinity-Attendees
(AA).  This classification allows these particul...
