      Provided is a technique for dynamic monitoring of rule
execution or playback of previously executed rules in order to
overcome deficiencies with conventional techniques.
     Provide conventional rule-based system support and explanation
facilities.  In addition, provide the following enhancements:

o   Dynamically display the execution of rules via emphasis or other
    techniques.
o   Provide a step-through function, which allows the user to control
    the execution flow of the rule.
o   Provide a dynamic step-through function, which allows a data
    object to pass through a rule in a timed manner.
o   Allow rule editing during step through to allow the user to
    correct invalid rules.
o   Support record and playback for test purposes.

     An end user will experience the following benefits:

o   simple rule definition and execution
o   improved usability, and
o   reduced errors and worksteps
