Abstract

A technique is provided for automatically creating a distribution list from the distribution information found in a note received from another user. When the note is opened, a "Create Distribution List" option will be provided either under a pull down or as a fast path key. When this Create Distribution List option is selected, a window will appear asking the user to name the distribution list. Once named, the distribution list, in the correct format, will automatically be created and filed in the proper location (an Address Book, Filelist... depending on the application). This technique will be available when the entire distribution list is visible in the received note, or when only the title of the distribution list is visible. Once the distribution list is created, it can easily be modified by the user.
