Abstract

A method is described which allows a user to define specific headers, footers or attachments to a specified time period when a mail distribution may be sent. Subsequently, the header, footer or attachment is automatically added to the mail distribution. It is desirable to attach different footers, headers or attachments to a mail distribution, depending upon a particular time of day when the distribution is sent. For example, the user may want to have the text "I'm leaving for the day" appended as a footer or header to a mail note when the time of day is after 5:15PM. The user may want to have the footer "Underpaid, Overworked and slaving away again in my office" appended to all notes which are sent out after 6:00 PM.

Method for Automatically Generating a Footer or Header Based on Date and Time

A method is described which allows a user to define specific
headers, footers or attachments to a specified time period when a
mail distribution may be sent.  Subsequently, the header, footer or
attachment is automatically added to the mail distribution.
It is desirable to attach different footers, headers or
attachments to a mail distribution, depending upon a particular time
of day when the distribution is sent.  For example, the user may want
to have the text "I'm leaving for the day" appended as a footer or
header to a mail note when the time of day is after 5:15PM.  The user
may want to have the footer "Underpaid, Overworked and slaving away
again in my office" appended to all notes which are sent out after
6:00 PM.  A method is needed for attaching different footers, headers
or attachments with a mail distribution upon detection of a specified
date and time of the note being sent.

9:00AM-12:00PM,12:45PM-5:15PM:  HEADER 1.

5:16PM-8:59AM:                  HEADER 2.

11:00AM-2:00PM:                 FOOTER 2.

7/27/82-8/15/87:                FILE ATTACHMENT 1.

Times are set up to determine which header and/or footer and/or
attachment will be attached.  The detection of time at send time
triggers attachment of a specified header, footer or file attachment.
FOOTER 1 and HEADER 1 will reference lines of text as is typical w...
