Abstract

Provided is a method for allowing a user to configure a specific header, footer or attachment to a set of attributes, and more importantly to a set of attributes with specified values. It is desirable to automatically attach a footer, header or attachmen to a mail distribution, depending upon certain attributes which may be set with the distribution. For example, the user may want to have the text "CONFIDENTIAL" automatically attached as a footer or header to a mail note when the security label attribute is set to "RESTRICTED". A method is needed for automatically attaching an arbitrary footer, header or attachment with a mail distribution upon detection of specified attributes associated with the distribution.

Method for Automatically Generating a Footer of Header Depending on Associated Distribtuion Attributes

Provided is a method for allowing a user to configure a
specific header, footer or attachment to a set of attributes, and
more importantly to a set of attributes with specified values.
It is desirable to automatically attach a footer, header or
attachmen to a mail distribution, depending upon certain attributes
which may be set with the distribution.  For example, the user may
want to have the text "CONFIDENTIAL" automatically attached as a
footer or header to a mail note when the security label attribute is
set to "RESTRICTED".  A method is needed for automatically attaching
an arbitrary footer, header or attachment with a mail distribution
upon detection of specified attributes associated with the
distribution.
A user may configure a specific header, footer or attachment to
a set of attributes, and more importantly to a set of attributes with
specified values.  For example:

SECURITY_LABEL              :  HEADER 1.
RECIPIENT='JOE@VMSYS1' :  FOOTER 2.
REFERENCE, DESCRIPTION :  ATTACHMENT 1.

Attributes are set up to determine which header and/or footer
and/or attachment will automatically be attached.  The detection of
the SECURITY LABEL attribute in a distribution will automatically
generate HEADER 1.  If the RECIPIENT ATTRIBUTE list contains
JOE@VMSYS1 then FOOTER 2 will be generated.  If both REFERENCE and
