Abstract

A service can be established within any user interface to merge two or more distribution lists or address book groups into one list or group. This can best be done by implementing the function via a function key or a pulldown/popup item within the distribution list/address book container. By selecting this function key or pulldown/popup item, a list of distribution lists/groups would be displayed. The user would then mark the distribution list/groups he/she desires to merge with a character, i.e. *, /, #, "M", etc., or select the lists with the spacebar or mouse. The program would do the following:

Merging Distribution Lists

A service can be established within any user interface to merge
two or more distribution lists or address book groups into one list
or group.  This can best be done by implementing the function via a
function key or a pulldown/popup item within the distribution
list/address book container.  By selecting this function key or
pulldown/popup item, a list of distribution lists/groups would be
displayed.  The user would then mark the distribution list/groups
he/she desires to merge with a character, i.e. *, /, #, "M", etc., or
select the lists with the spacebar or mouse.  The program would do
the following:

1.  Combine all marked lists/groups into one list/group by merging
the userids in all selected lists into one file.
2.  Search the resulting merged file for duplicate userids and delete
    duplicates as necessary.
3.  Prompt the user for the name of the new merged list/group.
4.  Save the new list/group.
5.  Ask the user if the old lists/groups that were merged should be
    deleted.
6.  Delete old lists/groups if requested by the user.
