Abstract

Handling multiple General Point Register (GPR) operations reduces the number of I/O pins needed on the chip thereby allowing parallel protocols between GPR's to bypass the GPR tagging scheme. The inhibit tag CTL trigger field control turns on when an operation (N) utilizes greater than two GPR's and turns off upon completion of that operation (N). The trigger allows previous successive operations to properly sequence the use of the GPR while preventing successive operatons from utilizing these tags. The multiple GPR operation tag field control accepts the identification tags of the execution unit that executes the operation (N) that utilizes greater than two GPR's. The sequence of the operation (N) is as follows:

operation tag field control accepts the identification tags of the
execution unit that executes the operation (N) that utilizes greater
than two GPR's.  The sequence of the operation (N) is as follows:

    - Decode operation in secondary discoder and choose an execution
    unit to execute the operation.
    - Turn on all participating GPR's inhibit tag CTL TR TN and load
    GPR operation tags with the execution units identification tag.
    - When the execution unit chooses to use the GPR, it sends the
    GPR's and its identification tags to the GPR controls.  The
    contents of the GPR are then allowed to be used or modified as
    specified by operation (N).
    - After completing the use of GPR in C, the inhibit tag CTL TR is
    turned off and GPR CTLS revert.
