Abstract

Presentation Manager* applications can be minimized within the OS/2* User Shell. When minimized, a PM application is represented by an icon in the desktop window. Generally, a user arranges his set of application icons within the desktop window. Sets of related applications are grouped within a specific area on the screen. This practice results in a more efficient work area and reduces onscreen clutter.

Tag-Along Icons

Presentation Manager* applications can be minimized within the
OS/2* User Shell.  When minimized, a PM application is represented by
an icon in the desktop window.  Generally, a user arranges his set of
application icons within the desktop window.  Sets of related
applications are grouped within a specific area on the screen.  This
practice results in a more efficient work area and reduces onscreen
clutter.

This article describes a method by which sets of PM
applications are grouped within the desktop window.  Once grouped,
the associated icons "travel" with each other within the PM desktop.
For example, if the user has several editor applications present on
the PM desktop, they can be grouped together and placed in a specific
screen area.  If one of the editor icons is moved to another position
on the PM desktop, all of the other editor icons follow it to the new
position.

The mechanism by which applications are grouped is a
Presentation Manager application called the Tag-along Manager.  This
program is similar to the PM Desktop Manager in that a hot key
sequence brings the window to the foreground of the PM session.  This
window displays a list of saved application groupings:
