Drive Cleaning Data Cartridge

Disclosed is a product for use in an automated tape drive
cleaning process.  The product, a drive cleaning data cartridge, will
have the data storing ability of a regular data cartridge with the
added feature of drive tape path cleaning capabilities.

The cartridge will contain a predetermined amount of tape or
media that has data storage capabilities for system data backup and
retrieval.  Within this same cartridge there will be a calculated
amount of tape or media that will have drive tape path cleaning
properties.  This second section of media will be contiguous to the
end of the first section of media to form an aggregate strip of media
(see the figure).

This cartridge's feature will only be utilized by a tape device
that can recognize this cartridge as the drive cleaning data
cartridge.  It will require the tape drive to contain necessary
function to perform tape movement to the cleaning area of media.

This area of head cleaning medium will be used in sections and
these sections will be used only once during the life of the drive
cleaning data cartridge.  The frequency of cleaning is tape device
dependent.
