Multi-Function Presentation Manager ICON

This article describes a multi-function icon that is used to
represent an application program on a Presentation Manager* desktop
in OS/2*.  The icon is divided into two or more areas, each of which
represents a program mode.  Each icon area is visually distinct to
the user.  The mouse can be positioned and double-clicked in any of
these graphic areas.  When the application is maximized, it "comes
up" in the mode which corresponds to the graphic area that was
double-clicked.

For example, a Calendar application may have a multi-function
icon that is divided into daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly areas.
The user can select a working mode by simply maximizing the
application accordingly:

---------
º D º W<------- Graphic Area (Weekly)
º---+---º
º M º Y º <--- Multi-function icon
+-------+

When the user double-clicks on the graphic "W", the Calendar
application is maximized, and the "weekly window" is displayed.  The
user can then work with calendar appointments on a weekly basis.  The
function of the icon is similar with each of the other graphic areas.
