Abstract

Disclosed is a computer program and method for including signatures or inserts into a magazine or book at a periodic, coordinated rate less than 100%. Often advertisers want to only include their advertising in a certain percentage of the books and they want their advertising to be evenly dispersed. This method allows them to get the broad exposure of the publication without having to invest in advertising to the entire circulation of the publication. In addition, if two inserts or signatures are related due to the content of material, this system guarantees that they are placed in the correct corresponding magazines.

placed in the correct corresponding magazines.

An Editor Application was implemented to facilitate defining
the partial signature coverage plan.  The partial signature coverage
plan is called ABCD Plan.  The definition of an ABCD plan requires
the operator to select a plan and a cycle for each signature.  The
Plan (A, B, C or D) represents how often the signature is to be
selected.  The Cycle (A, B, C or D) represents which book of the
pair, triplet or quadripulate the signature is to be selected in.
Plan A Cycle A represents a signature which is always included, while
Plan D Cycle A represents a signature which is selected for the
first, fifth, ninth books and so on.

When a job is started to run in ABCD Plan mode, the ABCD Plan
definitions for the signatures are decoded in order to c...
