Abstract

Disclosed is a flapper mechanism of Passbook/Verification printer to obtain smooth medium flow at an open area on the printing station. The disclosed flapper is divided into two flappers, L-flapper and R-flapper. When a medium is fed to the printing station, the L-flapper mounted on the print head carrier covers the open area under the print head in its left-most home position, and the R-flapper fixed on the unit frame covers the rest of the open area. L-flapper achieves the same function as R-flapper in the limited space where a fixed type flapper like R-flapper cannot be installed.

      Disclosed is a flapper mechanism of Passbook/Verification
printer to obtain smooth medium flow at an open area on the printing
station.  The disclosed flapper is divided into two flappers,
L-flapper and R-flapper.  When a medium is fed to the printing
station, the L-flapper mounted on the print head carrier covers the
open area under the print head in its left-most home position, and
the R-flapper fixed on the unit frame covers the rest of the open
area.  L-flapper achieves the same function as R-flapper in the
limited space where a fixed type flapper like R-flapper cannot be
installed.

      The figure shows the structure of this mechanism.  A spring
pushes L-flapper down, and roller 1 on the print head is rolling on
the rear-bar 2.  The height of the flapper depends on its position on
the rear-bar 2.  When the print head is in its home position, the
roller 1 fall down on a slope of a rear-bar 2, and L-flapper covers
the open area under the print head, and R-flapper covers the whole of
open area except the home position area.  When the print head is
moving on the rear-bar 2 except the home position, the roller 1 goes
up on the rear-bar 2, and L-flapper does not touch the surface of a
medium.
