Abstract

Disclosed is a disk connection structure to a hub of a spindle motor to maximize recordable areas, to eliminate the slip between a clamper and a disk, and to reduce manufacturing processes of a hub and a clamper. The disclosed hard disk incorporates some screw holes in stead of a large inner hole that has been used for the conventional disk clamping.

Center Holeless Hard Disk for Low Profile Drive

      Disclosed is a disk connection structure to a hub of a spindle
motor to maximize recordable areas, to eliminate the slip between a
clamper and a disk, and to reduce manufacturing processes of a hub
and a clamper.  The disclosed hard disk incorporates some screw holes
in stead of a large inner hole that has been used for the
conventional disk clamping.

      The figure illustrates the structure of connection of this
article in the left side and a conventional structure of connection
in the right side.  The structure of this article is unique in the
point that the new disk is a center-holeless structure and there must
be some screw holes (more than 3) without a conventional large inner
hole on a disk.  In combination with the new disk design mentioned
above, the new hub and clamper are used for the disk connection.  By
the structure of this article, following three technical advantages
can be obtained.  1) The conventional clamped zone on a disk created
by a clamping rib of a clamper is eliminated and effectively used as
an additionally usable data zone.  2) The screw holes can also be
used for holding disks while disks are in their manufacturing
processes.  3) A cutout of a hub and some engraving process of a
clamper to create a clamping rib become unneeded, therefore
manufacturing process reductions can be realized.
