Abstract

Disclosed is a computer-based method of generating Polymer Thick Film Masks for the purpose of applying an engineering change or upgrade to an existing electronic card or panel. A graphic data file of an existing circuit s is used as target or termination and obstacle data. Predefined performance parameters and geometries are invoked by the utility to design and generate an output file to be used in the creation of a Polymer Thick Film Mask of the rewor circuit board.

      Disclosed is a computer-based method of generating Polymer
Thick Film Masks for the purpose of applying an engineering change or
upgrade to an existing electronic card or panel.  A graphic data file
of an existing circuit s is used as target or termination and
obstacle data.  Predefined performance parameters and geometries are
invoked by the utility to design and generate an output file to be
used in the creation of a Polymer Thick Film Mask of the rewor
circuit board.

      The utility uses IGES type input of existing physical and
logical circuit data a converts it to a PCB based data file whereby
net names are associated to assigned physical features.  The circuit
redesign is input into the automated physical design utility along
with performance requirements of the elements to b added such as
total resistance allowed, current limit (amps), neck down allowances,
line EMC sensitivity, etc.  The Polymer Thick Film materials to be u
must be designated in order for the utility to calculate sheet
resistance or ser resistance of the configuration, and the utility
also requires the preferred termination targets and termination types
to be input.  In this way, the utility generate a routing to the
nearest Turning Via, SMT, PIII land or other preferred routing area
or channels.
