Abstract

This article describes a method that allows a user to hot-key between code-pages. A one byte identifier field can be added to the Operator Information Area (OIA) denoting what code page the end user (EU) is currently using. The controller can be configured to have a definite number of code pages that the user may wish to select from. All the user would have to do is press a certain key-stroke combination, such as ALT+DEL, to toggle through the available code-pages without affecting other sessions or re-IPLing the controller. Since a controller,i.e, 3174 is not much more than a specialized PC, the ability to store more than one code-page in memory already exists. Currently all of the code-pages are stored on the hard drive in the controllers.

On-Line Code Page Manipulator

This article describes a method that allows a user to hot-key
between code-pages.  A one byte identifier field can be added to the
Operator Information Area (OIA) denoting what code page the end user
(EU) is currently using.  The controller can be configured to have a
definite number of code pages that the user may wish to select from.
All the user would have to do is press a certain key-stroke
combination, such as ALT+DEL, to toggle through the available
code-pages without affecting other sessions or re-IPLing the
controller.  Since a controller,i.e, 3174 is not much more than a
specialized PC, the ability to store more than one code-page in
memory already exists.  Currently all of the code-pages are stored on
the hard drive in the controllers.  The modifications needed to
implement this idea will be contained in the micro-code of the
controller.
