Abstract

Users often use electronic mail to communicate over long distances that are associated with timezone differences. Often, senders of mail are not aware of a timezone difference between them and recipients of the mail item. It is useful to know that a recipient may not see a mail item for hours because of a timezone difference. A method is needed for warning a sender of a timezone difference when an important mail item is sent.

Method for Communicating Timezone Differences during Priority Mailing

Users often use electronic mail to communicate over long
distances that are associated with timezone differences.  Often,
senders of mail are not aware of a timezone difference between them
and recipients of the mail item.  It is useful to know that a
recipient may not see a mail item for hours because of a timezone
difference.  A method is needed for warning a sender of a timezone
difference when an important mail item is sent.

The acknowledgement disclosed herein is sent to the sender when
the receiving server receives the mail item.  For example, a Dallas,
Texas user sends a mail note to London, England.  The note is very
important so is marked with priority delivery.  If the note is
received by the receiving server after work hours and a timezone
difference is detected such as the six hour difference between a city
in the U. S.  and England, a timezone difference acknowledgement is
sent back to the sender.  The sender will receive the acknowledgement
in his inbasket and can work directly from it to the associated
Address Book entry of the recipient in a different timezone.
