Abstract

Disclosed is an information system to support decision-making processes in the presence of events unfolding at many locations, possibly over a wide area. The system acquires information relating to the overall event in the form of video images, data, text and verbal descriptions or any combination of the preceding from vantage points, where the overall event is being observed. After the image has been enhanced, a specialist analyzes the information collected and adds his interpretation to aid in the decision-making process. The interpretation is presented verbally, by text and through annotation or any combination in multimedia-presentation format.

      Disclosed is an information system to support decision-making
processes in the presence of events unfolding at many locations,
possibly over a wide area.  The system acquires information relating
to the overall event in the form of video images, data, text and
verbal descriptions or any combination of the preceding from vantage
points, where the overall event is being observed.  After the image
has been enhanced, a specialist analyzes the information collected
and adds his interpretation to aid in the decision-making process.
The interpretation is presented verbally, by text and through
annotation or any combination in multimedia-presentation format.

      The information (image and voice) acquired at the observation
site is digitized and put into multimedia presentation format.  This
information is compressed and transferred through broadband links to
an event data base.  This information is accessed and decompressed by
the image workstation for image processing.  Upon completion, the
processed image is compressed and stored in the event data base once
again.  The specialist retrieves this information for analysis and
his/her findings are presented in the form of verbal statements
and/or annotations, as required.  The image enhanced by the image
workstation and the verbal comments, if any, made by the specialist
are combined in the form of a multimedia presentation, compressed and
stored in the event data base.  The annotation capability is
supported by the Advanced User Interface (AUI).
