Model Reference Adaptive Controller

The settling time of a model reference adaptive controller is
improved by applying the input control signal through a filter
directly to the controller.

A feedback signal of the controller and the input control
signal are subtracted.  The resulting difference signal is fed to the
filter.  The filter, which may be, for example, a PID (proportional
integrational differential) filter, is adapted to raise the
difference signal.  The filter output is the control quantity of the
controller.

This control system is suitable for any environment where short
response and settling times of the adaptive system are required.
This applies in particular to adaptive motor control applications.
