Fan/Board Mounting Bracket

Disclosed is a device that provides a mounting system for fans
and a printed circuit board assembly in a direct-access storage
device (DASD) array subsystem.

In order to reduce cable and connector failures in the bulkhead
assembly of the enclosure, a printed circuit board assembly was
designed to replace a large power distribution cable.  However, there
is no space below the board for spacers or fasteners.

The bulkhead assembly 1 of a DASD enclosure holds two fans 2
and a large power distribution cable 3.  This cable has a high
failure rate and requires complete dismantling of the enclosure
assembly to repair.  Elimination of this cable was required to meet
our quality goals (Fig. 1).

The bulkhead assembly 1 can be made less complex by eliminating
mounting ears required for the fans 2.  The new bracket 4 fastens to
the bulkhead 1 and provides a mounting fixture for the fans 2 and for
the printed circuit board 5.  Due to bulkhead mounting surfaces,
there are no possible mounting points under the printed circuit board
5 front surface.  They are provided on the bottom of the fan bracket
4 (Fig. 2).
