Filtering Phone Calls

A technique is disclosed to allow users with RolmPhone**
244PC-type telephones connected to a workstation to filter their
phone calls based on the caller and/or the time of day.  A dialog box
would be available on the workstation that would allow users to set
how incoming calls are handled.  Available options would include the
following:

Ring - Users may want to always know when certain people are
calling, i.e., boss or spouse.  Users can setup their software so the
phone will always ring when these specified people call.  They may
also set levels to the ringing to indicate WHO is calling.  For
example, they can set two quick rings if it's their boss and three
quick rings if it's their spouse.  Even if users are in the hallway
(away from their desk), if they can hear their phone they will know
who is calling.

Busy - This option is provided so certain people will receive a
busy signal.  This will indicate to the caller that the user is in
the office but on the phone.  The caller won't be able to leave a
phonemail message so he/she will have to call back later.

Forward to Message Center/Secretary - This option will be used
if the user wants calls from certain people to be handled to somebody
else.  The calls will automatically get forwarded to the specified
people.

PhoneMail* - This option will be used if the user wants certain
people to leave a message, but does not wish to speak with them.
