Abstract

With the advent of personal computers, multimedia presentations are becoming prevalent within the office environment. Often, these applications present video, animation, sound, etc. at inopportune moments. These mechanisms, typically, present material continuously without regard to the printer activity that may be occurring within the office. Even with the advances in noise control for printer devices, many printers still generated sufficient noise to be distracting to an office user listening to an audio presentation.

Printer Regulation via Multimedia Presentation Events

      With the advent of personal computers, multimedia presentations
are becoming prevalent within the office environment.  Often, these
applications present video, animation, sound, etc. at inopportune
moments.   These mechanisms, typically, present material continuously
without regard to the printer activity that may be occurring within
the office.  Even with the advances in noise control for printer
devices, many printers still generated sufficient noise to be
distracting to an office user listening to an audio presentation.

      Typical software printing spools can activate a printer at a
time that would distract a user's attention from a presentation.  For
example, the user's printer may start printing during a multimedia
presentation.  This often forces the user to suspend the printer to
hear the audio presentation.  It is desirable to automatically
suspend a printer upon a user activating a multimedia presentation.
For example, a user may wish for a multimedia presentation to pause
during printer activity.  The user does not desire to hear the
multimedia presentation sounds while attempting a local printing
operation.  It is desirable to automatically adjust the printer
activity to reduce audio interference upon activation of an audio
multimedia application.
