       Disclosed is the Extended POST which allows complex, large
tests to be run from memory not Read-Only Storage (ROS).

       Systems that have a limited amount of ROS have a basic
problem.  There is a limited number of functions that can be put
into ROS because of its size limitations.  Also some functions
which are large and complex should not be placed in ROS because
of the exposure of having to change and rerelease ROS.

       A solution to this problem is Extended POSTs (Power on
Self Text) which would not reside in ROS but reside on the IPL
media.  They would be loaded as part of the IPL boot code and
run before the operating system runs.  This frees up space for
more basic, less complicated functions in ROS, resulting in more
space for ROS and fixing bugs in coplicated routines in boot
load, not ROS.

       As is mentioned above, an Extended POST offers much more
benefit by saving space for needed functions in ROS.  Should the
complicated EPOST have a bug, it can be easily and quickly
replaced where the ROS part requires an engineering change.
