Abstract

In a work flow environment people are paid based on the volume of work that gets done. For that reason it is in our best interest to design our application so that tasks can be accomplished in the minimum number of keystrokes, thus enhancing the productivity of the user. In the fax environment, it is common for inbound transmissions to contain only one document. The Document Separation Process would be quite tedious if the user had to explicitly select every page of a transmission in order to make a document out of it. Thus, an option was added so that the user could select all unassigned pages of a transmission. (An unassigned page is one which has yet to be assigned to a document.) The user can then click on the Make Document button to make a document out of the entire transmission.

Methods to Enhance the Separation of a Transmission into Documents

In a work flow environment people are paid based on the
volume of work that gets done.  For that reason it is in our
best interest to design our application so that tasks can be
accomplished in the minimum number of keystrokes, thus enhancing
the productivity of the user.  In the fax environment, it is
common for inbound transmissions to contain only one document.
The Document Separation Process would be quite tedious if the
user had to explicitly select every page of a transmission in
order to make a document out of it.  Thus, an option was added
so that the user could select all unassigned pages of a
transmission.  (An unassigned page is one which has yet to be
assigned to a document.)  The user can then click on the Make
Document button to make a document out of the entire
transmission.  This solves the problem of the user having to
explicitly select each unassigned page and saves the user at
least one keystroke per page.

The option "Unassigned pages" was added to the submenu of
the "Select all" item of the Group pulldown.  When this option
is selected, all unassigned pages of the currently open
transmission are selected.  The document separator can then
click on the Make document pushbutton to make a document out of
the entire transmission.
