Analog Ultrasonic Monitor

The Analog Ultrasonic Monitor(AUM) is a portable, battery-powered
instrumnet used to read the ultrasonic energy level of liquid tanks
that employ ultrasonic transducers.

      The instrument uses a piezoelectric sensor (a Kistler
peizoelectric sensor, for example) to detect the presence of
ultrasonic energy.  The output of this sensor is converted to a D.C.
voltage that is displayed on an analog meter calibrated to display
pounds per square inch (PSI) of ultrasonic energy.

      To measure ultrasonic energy, the user simply places the
rod-shaped ultrasonic probe containing the piezoelectric sensors in
the tank to be monitored.  The tank ultrasonic energy is immediately
read out as psi on the analog meter.  Moving the probe about the tank
permits the user to evaluate the entire tank ultrasonic profile.

      POWER SUPPLY - Power may be provided to the AUM either through
power supply electronics or commercially available batteries.

      AUM METER CIRCUITRY - A piezoelectric sensor is coupled to the
instrument.  A current diode provides a constant voltage bias to the
sensor through a second erially coupled reverse voltage protection
diode.

      The sensor signal is AC coupled to a voltage follower through a
coupling capacitor and signal return resistor.  An additional pair of
diodes assure that the signal does not exceed the voltage follower
supply voltage.
