Mechanism to Facilitate Selective Acknowledgement for Office Mail Services

      This article proposes a method to receive acknowledgement only
from a desired subset of recipients in a distribution list.

      Acknowledgement of the receipt of messages is an extremely
important feature of interpersonal messaging systems.  Current office
products mail services support acknowledgement processing on their
interpersonal messaging.  For example, person A while sending a note
to person B, may request notification upon the receipt of the message
by the person B. Although the underlying Mail services provide such
facility in the interpersonal messaging, it is not surfaced to the
end user through the current EUI.  For example, in PROFS, current
specification of the ".AK" command does not allow the user to target
a subset of a large distribution list from whom the acknowledgements
are expected.  In this scenario, the current specification of the
".AK" results in unnecessary acknowledgements which is, at times,
irksome and counter-productive.

      An improved and flexible interface is needed so that the user
can identify more explicitly the recipients from whom
acknowledgements are expected.  The current ".AK" line command can be
extended with two arguments as shown below:
