Abstract

Disclosed is a cellular phone set that receives dialing numbers to be dialed from a PC ( Personal Computer ) and dials automatically without any operator intervention to a remote end in the public telephone network. It is connected to the PC by using a short connecting cable. The earphone/microphone jack that is integrated in the phone set is used for that connection. After a dial connection is established, the PC sends or receives a PC file or a transaction to or from the remote end by using a voice band modem.

      Disclosed is a cellular phone set that receives dialing numbers
to be dialed from a PC ( Personal Computer ) and dials automatically
without any operator intervention to a remote end in the public
telephone network.  It is connected to the PC by using a short
connecting cable.  The earphone/microphone jack that is integrated in
the phone set is used for that connection.  After a dial connection
is established, the PC sends or receives a PC file or a transaction
to or from the remote end by using a voice band modem.

      The dialing numbers and associated control data exchanged prior
to the dial operation is in a form of DTMF ( Dual Tone MultiFrequency

) signal that is commonly used in the wired telephone network.  DTMF
signal can represent alphanumeric numbers 0 through 9 , A,B,C,D and
symbols * ,#.  The earphone/microphone jack in the existing cellular
phone set is originally intended for use of an IO port to an external
earphone and a microphone to be used for hands-free voice
communications.  The same jack is used for DTMF transmission and
reception as well as voice communications.  The advantage is that no
additional connector is required in the phone set that has generally
a very limited physical space outside.  From a operator's view point,
the jack is an ideal connector for easy connection and disconnection
of the connecting cable.
