Abstract

A magnet tape recording cartridge has a volume serial label attached as shown in the Figure. This volume serial label is made of printed barcode paper. The label is then attached to the cartridge. This invention discloses the addition of a low carbon or silicon steel strip that possesses magnetic property. The volume serial label is now backed by this steel strip with adhesives on both sides of the strip. The combination of the barcode label with steel strip backing are then attached to the recording cartridge. The magnetic steel strip is typically 10 mils thick.

      A magnet tape recording cartridge has a volume serial label
attached as shown in the Figure.  This volume serial label is made of
printed barcode paper.  The label is then attached to the cartridge.
This invention discloses the addition of a low carbon or silicon
steel strip that possesses magnetic property.  The volume serial
label is now backed by this steel strip with adhesives on both sides
of the strip.  The combination of the barcode label with steel strip
backing are then attached to the recording cartridge.  The magnetic
steel strip is typically 10 mils thick.

      In conjunction with this magnetic volume serial label, there is
the magnetic picker.  The picker is made of electromagnetic coils
wound around a magnetic yoke as shown.  The coil can be energized and
will produce a magnetic field, when brought into the vicinity of the
magnetic label, it produces a strong magnetic attractive force that
enables the cartridge to be drawn into the picker sleeve as shown in
the Figure.  The means to draw the coil picker into the tray is
through a motorized carriage.  The coil carriage can be moved back
and forth via a gear/rack combination, driven by a motor.  The coil
is energized in the pick mode and not energized in the pull mode.
