Multi-Directional Scroll Method for Navigating in a Seemingly Boundless Three Dimensional Area

Provided is a method for navigating in a three dimensional area
with vast boundaries when viewed by a user (e.g., infinite desktop
system).

An infinite desktop system requires a convenient method for
navigation.  A virtual reality environment system requires a method
for indicating the participant's point in virtual reality space with
respect to virtual reality bounds.  A mouse operated navigation and
indication is needed.

Provided is a method for navigating in a three dimensional area
with vast boundaries when viewed by a user (e.g., infinite desktop
system).  As shown in Fig. 1, a scroll bar icon is implemented on the
desktop.  The icon can be spawned to a work area such as a desktop
and dragged to a preferred place like any other icon.  The icon is
manipulated with a mouse.  Associated with the scroll bar icon is a
configuration interface available upon request by a user through
double clicking on any slide bar of the icon.  Configuration permits
a user to set distance scrolled when selecting any of the scrolling
arrow heads (e.g., one inch, 3 millimeters, etc.).  The slide bar
always represents the position of the user viewing area with respect
to the three dimensional area bounds.  Single clicking on a direction
indicator (i.e., large arrow heads) automatically advances the
viewing area the configured number of units.  The slide bar i...
