Abstract

This method is used to isolate power supply noise between different groups of logic. This is done by dividing the power plane into different zones. The Figure shows a planar with 2 zones of memory SIMMs.

Method of Isolating Power Planes

      This method is used to isolate power supply noise between
different groups of logic.  This is done by dividing the power plane
into different zones.  The Figure shows a planar with 2 zones of
memory SIMMs.

      The zones are connected to the main power plane/supply by
inductors.  The inductors may be inductor modules (if needed).
However, the inductor maybe as simple (and cheap) as a trace on the
planar between the main and zone power planes.  Each zone will need
enough capacitors to keep the power constant.
