Combining Eye-Tracking Mouse and Standard Cordless Mouse

Disclosed is a mechanism for combinining the accurate control
of the mouse pointer by the eye-tracking mouse controls, and allows
fast selection by using the standard mouse buttons.

In today's computer system, user productivity can be greatly
affected by small annoyances.  The following problems exist for the
standard mouse:

1.  A clear flat surface must be maintained near the computer.  (This
is especially difficult with laptops on airplanes.)
2.  Movement of the mouse to adjust the mouse pointer is not
accurate.  Often a user must adjust the mouse several times to
    properly position the pointer.
3.  The track ball consists of physically moving parts so that the
mouse tends to degrade in performance and break over time.
4.  A cordless mouse uses a great about of power from it's battery
while monitoring the track ball movements and passing this
    information back to the computer.

The eye-tracking mouse is slow in that there are no controls to
'select' the icon once the mouse pointer has been positioned.  The
computer must verify that the user has maintained the mouse pointer
at a position for some given amount of time.

This article provides a mechanism whereby a user will have the
eye-tracking mouse built into the housing of the computer monitor.  A
hand-held cordless mouse is also provided.  The cordless mouse will
contain a n...
