Configuration Method for IBM PS/2 Models with Internal Reference Diskette

A method for the automated configuration of Personal System 2*
Computers, with built in reference diskette, is disclosed.
Configuration of multiple systems is possible with uniformity and
little chance of error.

A DOS bootable, configuration diskette is created and modified
to simulate a reference diskette.  This will allow access to the
reference disk contained on the hard drive of some PS/2 models.  The
configuration diskette also contains adapter description files that
have been modified to the desired configuration, a simple batch file
(Autoexec.bat) and a program to execute automatic configuration.  To
configure the system the operator shuts down the system, inserts the
configuration diskette and turns the system on.  Automated processing
then occurs.  Once processing completes the system is turned off, the
diskette is removed and the system is restarted.  The PS/2 will now
resume normal operation with its configuration changed as desired.

The method conprises the following five steps which are shown in the
figure.

1.  Insert diskette and restart system

2.  The diskette simulates a reference diskette to the system

3.  Configured adapter description files are copied to the
        system partition

4.  The automatic configuration program on the system partition
        is executed

5.  Remove diskette and restart system
