Taper Shaped Groove to Remove Excess Copper on Printed Circuits

      Disclosed is the application of taper shaped groove to remove
unetched copper on printed circuits.

      The application of taper shaped groove to remove unetched
copper is shown in Fig. 1 and has following advantages.  Taper shaped
groove is easy to remove unetched copper material between printed
circuits without mechanical damage, prevents voids in groove when
insulator or solder resist filled in, prevents cracks of insulator
above conductor 2 and depth of groove is calculated from its width
and angle without measuring its depth directory.

      The construction of milling system which makes taper shaped
groove is shown in Fig. 2.  Micro endmill 1 is chucked into spindle
2.  Endmill position is calculated from z axis position where top of
endmill contacting with sensor 3.  Thickness of printed circuit is
not uniform and its surface is uneven.  Z position of milling area on
printed circuit is calculated from z axis position where sensor 4
mounted on vertical motion unit contacting with milling area on
surface of printed circuit.  Cutting depth is controlled by
calculating above mentioned z axis of endmill, milling area on
printed circuit and thermal expansion rate of spindle 2 in addition.
Accuracy of cutting depth of taper shaped groove is within 50
microns.
