Dynamic Action Finder for Graphical Interfaces

      Disclosed is a technique for allowing users to quickly search
for and find any action/function provided within the software
application from a single location.

o   Users can designate an Action-Finder area to be located on all
    window windows within the application.  This Action Finder area
    contains an entry field in which users enter what function/action
    they are looking for.  The Action Finder will automatically
    surface the pulldown menu, pop-up menu, notebook tab...  that
    contains the function the user is looking for and highlight or
    select that function.  This fastpath search is dynamic.  After
    the user types "s", any action/function beginning with the letter
    "s" will automatically be surfaced and highlighted.  When the
    user types "sa", the search is limited to actions/functions
    beginning with "sa"...  Once the user sees the wanted function,
    he/she just needs to select that function from the pulldown,
    pop-up...

o   An Action Finder icon will also exist on the desktop to allow the
    user to copy the Action Finder area to specific windows by
    dragging the icon to those windows.  Therefore, users have the
    option of placing the Action Finder area wherever they want
    within a window, and have the option of choosing which windows
    will contain the Action Finder area.
