Automated Configuration for Country Specific Software Packages

Proposed is a methodology allowing software programs to
logically decide and select country specific information such as tax
rate without end user customization, using the Global Positioning
Systems (GPS) and Geographic Information Service (GIS) database.

A software program such as an accounting package may need to
run in different countries.  But depending on the applications
involved, different internal logic may be executed depending on the
country (e.g. tax rate).  Typically different sources and executables
are created for each country to accommodate these subtle differences.
Creation and maintenance of these different versions can be
expensive.

Proposed is a methodology to use the global positioning system
which can sense the positioning information emitted from the
satellites forming the Global Positioning System (GPS).  The
receiving device, by interpreting the signals from the satellites,
can accurately sense the x and y coordinates of the device.  Based on
the coordinates the exact location information can be retrieved from
a Geographic Information Service Database.  The Geographic
Information Service Database maintains information about the
relationships between the (longitude(x), latitude(y)) and the country
names.

During the execution of the software packages designed to run
in several countries, the packages can probe the GPS device for the
location a...
