Utility to Facilitate User Modeling

Disclosed is a method for creating a new user definition based
on an existing user definition.

"User modeling" refers to the ability to select certain
attributes of a given "model" user definition and apply those
attributes to other users.  This is a desirable function, since it
greatly simplifies the administrative work of creating new, or
modifying old, user definitions.  IBM LAN Server* provides no user
modeling mechanism.

A utility to facilitate user modeling was designed.  Each user
definition is referenced as a single object.  Each object contains a
set of user attributes, such as password, privileges, resource
assignments, logon hours, etc.

Each user object is presented to the end-user as an icon.  A
"create" function allows a new user definition, with accompanying
icon, to be created.  Attributes are assigned to the object by
selecting all or some of the attributes of existing user objects and
assigning them to the new object.  For example, an administrator
might create the user object for a new user "x", and give that user
the same attributes as existing user "y".  Immediately after
creation, new user "x" can logon to a host domain with the same
privileges as user "y", and perform the same network operations.
