Abstract

It may happen in personal banking machines (PBM) or at other document dispensing machines that cash or documents contained in the output gate are retraced into the machine if they are not withdrawn by the customer in a programmed time. This is independent of the fact if the customer is standing in front of or has left the machine.

Consumer Controlled Money Retraced at Personal Banking Machines

It may happen in personal banking machines (PBM) or at other
document dispensing machines that cash or documents contained in the
output gate are retraced into the machine if they are not withdrawn
by the customer in a programmed time.  This is independent of the
fact if the customer is standing in front of or has left the machine.

The method provides the retraction of the banknote or the
documents only after a programmed time if the consumer or customer
has left the machine.

For that purpose an infra-red detector is installed in the
customer area of the machine.  If this infra-red detector detects the
presence of a human it resets the programmed timer as long as the
human customer is in its sensing area.  As soon as the customer
leaves the machine area without the document provided at the output
gate, the programmed timer will be started.  After a programmed
time-out the document will be retraced into the machine.  In case the
customer returns within the programmed time-out, the timer will start
again and the customer can take its money or documents respectively.
