Low Profile Clamping Apparatus for Rigid Magnetic Media

      Disclosed is a rigid disk clamping apparatus for achieving
radial clamping with a low profile clamp fixture.  Thus, none of the
fixture features extend above the disk surface when clamped to a
spindle.

      The apparatus shows a clamp ring 3) made of an elastomer in the
shape as shown in the Figure.  In this embodiment, the parts are made
of a disk 1), a hub surface 2), an elastomer ring 3), a plastic
insert 4) to spread the elastomer ring 3), and a screw 5) which holds
the assembly in place.  Alternative methods include molding the
elastomer to the desired shape rather than spreading it out by the
means shown.

      The elastomer rings shape is permanent and allows the disk to
be pushed on and pulled off.
