Abstract

A function is disclosed for building control blocks from new First Failure Support Technology/2 (FFST/2) probe points as well as existing non-FFST/2 probe points and provide migration of all error information to FFST/2 supported logs. Existing error information is also provided to FFST/2 via control blocks to build Generic Alerts.

Provide Consolidated First Failure Support Technology/2 and Generic Alert Support

A function is disclosed for building control blocks from new
First Failure Support Technology/2 (FFST/2) probe points as well as
existing non-FFST/2 probe points and provide migration of all error
information to FFST/2 supported logs.  Existing error information is
also provided to FFST/2 via control blocks to build Generic Alerts.

Disclosed is a function for producing FFST/2 control blocks
from multiple inputs enabling consolidated system management support
for FFST/2 functions on OS/2* LAN Requesters and Servers as follows:

o   NetErrorLogWrite API input arguments are used to build FFST/2
control blocks enabling the existing OS/2 LAN Requester/ Server
errors to be logged to the FFST/2 message and error logs in
addition to the LAN Requester/Server error log(s).  Message
numbers passed in the input arguments are checked and generic
alert control blocks are built if the error has been predefined
    as a generic alert.

o   Message log control blocks, from the Generic Alerter service,
containing message numbers for "ADMIN" type of local alerts are
checked and generic alert control blocks are built if they have
    been predefined as generic alerts.

o   Dump, message and error log control block pointers from new
FFST/2 probe points are passed on to FFST/2.  Message numbers in
    the message log control...
