Abstract

Disclosed is a method for managing help ids from separate vendor applications when incorporating information from these applications into a common notebook. The help information must be managed such that each vendor can provide their help information without interfering with another vendor's help ids. If each page or tab within the same notebook could be from a different vendor, either internal or external, the help ids must remain unique to ensure that the correct help for each different vendor appears when appropriate.

Managing Help Identifications from Vendors by Changing Help Files at Runtime

Disclosed is a method for managing help ids from separate
vendor applications when incorporating information from these
applications into a common notebook.  The help information must be
managed such that each vendor can provide their help information
without interfering with another vendor's help ids.  If each page or
tab within the same notebook could be from a different vendor, either
internal or external, the help ids must remain unique to ensure that
the correct help for each different vendor appears when appropriate.

Providing a specified range for all vendors to use for their
help ids was required so that the base application could use a
separate range.  Each vendor then supplies a separate help file for
each page or tab.  As the user switches between pages or tabs, the
underlying code removes the help file for the previously viewed page
and then adds the help file for the new page dynamically.  This
allows all vendors to utilize the same range of help ids while still
maintaining the uniqueness within the common application.  This also
relieves the base/common application from having to manage separate
help id tables for each different vendor and also relieves the base
application from administering help ids to each vendor.

This concept is unique in the following ways:

o   The base application manages the help information for the vendor.

o   Relieves the base/c...
