Dissipative Key

Described is a cover that eliminates the risk of transmitting
unwanted eelctrostatic discharge through a key used to lock or unlock
an electronic system.

The key cover (1) is made of a preferably elastromertic
material that has static dissipative properties to assure that the
high voltages associated with an electrostatic discharge will be
reduced to a harmless level and dissipated into the metal of the key
(2) and not into the system (not shown) via the lock assembly.  This
prevents ESD failures of the host electronics and internal devices
within the host system.
