Duplex Fiber Optic Splice Housing

A lightweight, high-strength, streamlined housing is
provided for containing and protecting two 3M Fibrlok* splices
connecting two dual- fiber jumper cables in a hostile environment.

The fiber-optic DIB (Dual Intra Building) cable is commonly
routed below computer room floors and above ceilings.  Splices made
to this cable, in those frequently hostile environments, can be
protected by this housing.  The housing is crush-resistant by design
and through the use of a 30% glass-filled polycarbonate material.
External cable radius control is provided by a Heyco strain relief
device (Heyco Molded Products Inc.) at the entrance and exit of the
housing.  Radius control of the buffered fibers within the housing
prevents bend radius induced attenuation and is controlled by the
basic design.

The housing has two precisely dimensioned slots on each side of
the cavity to hold the Fibrlok splices.

Cable strain relief is provided by clamping each Kevlar** cable
strength member in a figure eight routing between the base of the
housing and a plate which is guided by two studs and secured by nuts.
A Kevlar clamp at each end of the housing accommodates one of the two
cables.  The strain relief has been tested for up to 200 pounds of
tensile pull force on the cable.

Three small bars are placed across the housing opening and fit
into slots on the inside walls of the housing. These bars are flush
with th...
