Methodology for Specifying a Document Transformation Override in a Sender Transform Implementation

An optimal methodology is described for allowing document
transformation overrides in an office system.

A heterogeneous network environment connects different systems
of varying capability. Systems do not contain document transform
capabilities for every system which may be physically connected. The
concept of sender transforms allows systems to talk to each other by
converting documents into formats which will be understood by the
target system. Sender transforms are configured for the originating
system and often allow an administrator to further tailor the
configuration.  If a user is not satisfied with a sender transform
configuration, he must change it to satisfy his needs, or in the
typical case, call an administrator to update the configuration
because only an administrator is allowed to manipulate a system
configuration. Whatever is done, a change must be made and making the
change is a timely process performed by a process separate from
sending a distribution. A method is needed whereby a user is able to
override the output document format before sending to a destination
if the system configurations are not preferred. This provides a
methodology which facilitates overriding system configured transforms
from the send distribution activity.  Furthermore, the methodology
interfaces with the system to provide user friendliness.

This article describes a transform override option on a send
panel. The override option is a white icon which displays a picture
of a black vertical line with a perpendicular arrow line running up
to its middle from the left and 2 parallel lines which are both
perpendicular to the vertical line, running from its ends and to the
right. One of the right going vertical lines points to a black solid
square and the other to a black outlined circle. Dots run between the
2 parallel lines to indicate more than 2 choices are available. The
icon pictorially represents a transformation where choices can be
made. The icon is designed for convenient display on monochro...
