Adjustable Ultrasonic Staking Stator Attachment

      This device incorporates ultrasonic staking to retain adjusted
stator position by means of a clamp design providing sufficient force
on each stator against a spacer to maintain a magnetic air gap during
adjustment.

      As shown in the Figure, a clamp design 1 is illustrated noting
that only the top portion is shown with the bottom portion being a
mirror image of the top portion.  The clamp design 1 comprises a
center body portion 2 having one finger 3 extending outwardly from
the body portion 2 to contact each stator 4.  In the Figure, the
clamp design 1 is shown as having enough fingers for eight stators.

      Each of the fingers 3 define an oblong aperture 3A and the
fingers are shaped to deflect against the top 4A of the stators 4
when the center body portion 2 of the clamp 1 is mounted on the
stator housing 5. A spike 6 made of a plastic material selected for
its ultrasonic or heat-forming properties extending outwardly from
the top portion 4A is received in the finger aperture 3A.  The center
body portion 2 is mounted using attachment means 7 such as a screw.

      In operation, after mounting the body portion 2 to the stator
housing 5, the amount of deflection of the fingers 3 on the top
portion 4A is calculated to maintain the magnetic air gap between the
