Cylindrical Comb

       This invention applies to the quality control screening
process for substrates before and after standoff/reform is performed.
The substrates are screened for bent pins.

      Refer to Figs. A and B for illustrations of the current combs
used for the 36 mm Standoff/Reform Tool.  These combs are an assembly
of rectangular plates in a row.  The design of the combs is such that
the pins, if not bent, will pass between the rows.  The clearance
between the pin and two surrounding plates determines the allowable
bend limit for the pin.

      The Cylindrical Comb solution is illustrated in Fig. C. This
solution does not require significant downtime for a product change-
over, cannot be damaged from dropping, and screens all the pins for a
bend.  This is accomplished with a one-piece construction,
Cylindrical Comb.  Grooves are cut to form slots on both sides of the
cylinder.  Therefore, one side is for standoff and the other is for
the reform product.  A production tool changeover is as simple as
rotating the cylinder 180 degrees.  The Cylindrical Comb is hinged to
the product track; therefore, it cannot be dropped and damaged.  In
addition, no mounting screws are needed along the comb, thus all pins
are screened.

      With this design, having separate patterns on opposite sides,
allows for easy changeover and eliminates the possibility of damaging
