Abstract

This invention involves a functional enhancement to the Print area of IBM's OS/2* Office R1.2 Program Product. The concept involves giving the end user the ability to make a selection on the printer job properties panel indicating the need for all printing performed by the printer to be held. All printing done with an OS/2 Office printer having this selection set shall have all print jobs go to "hold" status upon arrival within an OS/2 Print Manager queue. End users gain this ability through an optional checkbox on the job properties panel. The default value is unchecked.

Print: Selection of "Hold Job" From Job Properties Panel

This invention involves a functional enhancement to the
Print area of IBM's OS/2* Office R1.2 Program Product. The concept
involves giving the end user the ability to make a selection on the
printer job properties panel indicating the need for all printing
performed by the printer to be held. All printing done with an OS/2
Office printer having this selection set shall have all print jobs go
to "hold" status upon arrival within an OS/2 Print Manager queue.
End users gain this ability through an optional checkbox on the job
properties panel. The default value is unchecked.

Currently, print jobs resulting from an OS/2 Office print
action attempt to create hardcopy immediately upon entering a Print
Manager queue.  OS/2 Office does not currently provide the ability to
hold a queue or print job. End users must currently make use of OS/2
Print Manager which is sometimes difficult because of real-time
constraints.

This invention allows the end user to select when a job,
intended for a Print Manager Queue, will be held upon arrival in that
queue.  Give the end user this selection ability within the current
OS/2 Office job properties panel. This properties panel is normally
encountered by the end user when creating a printer instance by
"opening" a printer template from the New Icons Folder (NIF).  Job
properties may be modified for current printer instances by selection
of the "Properties" option from the "File" action-bar item. The new
control used on the job properties panel is a checkbox allowing
selection and de-selection w...
