Method for Improving the Effectiveness of Error Recovery

A method is proposed which improves the
complement/recomplement procedure's coverage for intermittent or soft
errors.

      Conventional memory applications deploy a
complement/recomplement procedure to recover from uncorrectable
errors.

This procedure utilizes an error checking and correction (ECC)
facility to recover the uncorrectable errors in a single ECC word.
The basic procedure requires that at least one of the errors (i.e.,
one out of two) must appear as hard.  This proposal utilizes the data
received at the time of detection on the bus so that no degradation
could occur due to open drivers or lines by redriving the original
data detected between the store of the complemented data and the
following read of the complemented data.  The following example
describes this additional option for two opens.
