Time Averaging Method for Chromatographical Applications

       The principle of the method is to repeatedly register
chromatograms under identical conditions and to add the individual
registrations measuring point by measuring point with the aid of
suitable software.

      If this is repeated n times, the coherent signal amplitudes,
i.e., the substance peaks, add up to an ntuple. Incoherent noise
increases only by the factor "root of n".

      In addition to an improved signal-to-noise ratio, increased
peak areas for electronic evaluation are essential in ion
chromatography.  In practice, 10 to 30 chromatograms are added to
allow reasonable evaluation at running times of about 30 minutes.
The new method is used in ion chromatography, particularly to analyze
traces of ultrapure chemicals employed for semiconductors.
