Multimedia Menus

Provided are techniques for use of multimedia-based menus
in order to overcome deficiencies with conventional approaches.

The objective is to provide users with conventional multimedia
techniques and, in addition, provide the following enhancements:
o    Use multimedia information as the basis for menus, even
when using GUI components.
o    Multimedia can be used in menu backgrounds to provide more
realistic representations of objects.
o    Conventional controls can be represented via multimedia
presentation forms.
o    Multimedia can be used in menu foregrounds in order to
supplement or replace conventional textual or graphical information
in lists and fields.

Examples of multimedia information valid for use in either
foreground or background include motion video data, videoconference
data, audio data, etc.

Selections can occur with information displayed in a static or
dynamic form.

Users will notice the following benefits: new functionality, a
more dynamic user interface style, more natural presentation forms
and selections, and more flexibility in representation of choices,
selections, and data.
